We came, we baked, we ate.
Yes, that’s right, I’m of course talking about The Great BritWeb Bake Off 2016, our annual sugar extravaganza. Although, we did things a little differently this time around….
A team effort
Every week of the Bake Off was allocated to a particular member of the BritWeb team. On their week they had to whack on their oven gloves and whip up a tantalizing treat to bring into the office where everyone would dig in and score their efforts. Presentation and taste were certainly crucial aspects to consider!
There were some absolute delights created, from mini carrot cupcakes to a six layer chocolate marshmallow cake. There were a few surprises along the way and a few members of the team discovered a talent they never knew they had!
The Great Bake Off Report
Week one Anja and Becky from the social and content team produced a Lemon Drizzle cake and a Banana Walnut cake.
Week two Laura and MD Dan Purchase entered the mix. Laura with her white chocolate and raspberry cookies and Dan with his Salted Caramel Brownies (all credit going to his daughter Aimee).
Fran impressed us with her organic gluten free oatmeal and raisin cookies followed by Daniel in week four who wowed with his 6 layer Chocolate Marshmallow cake.
In week five Carl shocked us all with (in his words) “The Best Brownies in the World.” Then Kerry made some delicious Carrot cake cupcakes in week 6.
Tim Fifield’s interesting Ginger Bread house creation in week 7 had mixed reviews but added a bit of festive spirit to the competition.
Last but not least Tim Lockwood, the darkhorse of the competition, unveiled his Apfel Streuselkuchen (Apple Crumble Cake), which put him straight to the top of the leader board.
Final taste showdown
So, that was not the end. We wanted more and hosted a big finale where everyone had to bake something to put on display. We were now in direct competition!
There was a selection of scrumptious sweets, and it’s safe to say everyone was on a sugar high that day, fueled and ready to work hard. Once the entries were judged, the winner was clear.
Congratulations to Tim Lockwood, one of our senior developers, who surprised everyone and flew into the lead and won this years BritWeb Bake Off with his unique German treats. Our Outreach Manager Fran came in a close second with her Malt Biscuit Tiffins.
So, that sums up this year’s competition. Hopefully we won’t have made you too hungry…
